Retirement Income Planning & Lifetime Annuities

Coordinate Social Security, pensions, annuities, and life insurance into income you cannot outlive.

Retirement income that lasts as long as you do

We coordinate Social Security, pensions, annuities, and life insurance to build income that holds up in different market and tax environments.

Retirement planning

A plan for which dollars you spend first, and how each one is taxed.

  • Income streams: build income that isn’t all taxed at the same rate
  • Cash value: use cash value for flexibility in when you tap retirement accounts
  • Account coordination: coordinate Roth, IRA, and employer plans so they work together
  • Social Security timing: plan when to claim alongside your other income and your spouse’s benefits
  • Withdrawal order: decide which accounts to draw from first to manage taxes over time
  • Early-retirement risk: reduce sequence-of-returns risk with a cash reserve or guaranteed income in the first years
  • Longevity and inflation: plan for 30 or more years of rising costs with income that is guaranteed for life or can grow
  • Long-term care: plan how you would pay for care later in life without draining your savings or burdening your family
  • Spouse and legacy: make sure income continues for a surviving spouse and beneficiaries are up to date

A plan works best when reviewed every year and after major life events such as retiring, a death, or a change in health.

Retirement facts every individual should know

A few realities that shape how much income you need and how to take it.

  • Longevity: a healthy 65-year-old couple has a good chance that at least one spouse lives into their 90s, so income may need to last 30 years or more
  • Social Security: claiming before full retirement age permanently reduces your benefit, while waiting until 70 increases it
  • Taxes: traditional IRA and 401(k) withdrawals are taxed as ordinary income, and up to 85% of Social Security benefits can be taxable depending on your income
  • Required withdrawals: traditional accounts require minimum distributions in your 70s, whether or not you need the money
  • Inflation: at 3% a year, prices roughly double in about 24 years, so fixed income loses buying power
  • Healthcare: Medicare starts at 65 but does not cover most long-term care, and out-of-pocket costs tend to rise with age
  • Market timing: poor returns in the first years of retirement can do lasting damage, which is why income planning matters as much as saving

Lifetime income with annuities

An annuity turns part of your savings into a paycheck that continues for life, much like a private pension. We use annuities for the income you need to cover, and keep other dollars flexible for growth and legacy.

Fixed annuities

Set rate for a set period, with principal protected by the issuing insurer.

Fixed indexed annuities

Growth linked to an index with downside protection, plus optional lifetime income riders.

Immediate annuities

Convert a lump sum into guaranteed income that starts right away.

Guaranteed income that can’t run out, however long you live
Joint-life payout options so your spouse keeps receiving income
Cover essential bills with guaranteed income, and invest the rest
Pair with life insurance to leave a tax-free legacy while you spend your savings

Guarantees depend on the claims-paying ability of the issuing insurer. Annuities have fees, surrender periods, and tax rules, so we compare options before recommending one.
